Encinitas and North County San Diego offers an array of activities for all ages and likes. Rather a romantic get away, adrenaline packed adventure, or family fun you can find it in North County.
For the family, after the kids get there thrills building sandcastles and frolicking in the ocean at Moonlight Beach, explore Quail Botanical Gardens which features a kid area and magic garden. It makes me wish I was a kid again. Legoland California is also just minutes away. Here you can have a fun-filled day riding the Lego-themed rides, seeing miniture scale cities come alive using legos, and get hands on and interactive with Legos. Legoland now also has a waterpark and aquarium, so pack your swimmies and cameras. If theme parks are your thing, Sea World and the San Diego Zoo are just 20 minutes away.
If you are trying to put the word active in activities, head out for some surf. Moonlight Beach is great for beginners with the sandy bottom. Rent a board and or get a lesson. The Carlsbad Lagoon is a great place to rent Jet Ski’s (PWC), or charter a boat for waterskiing or wakeboarding. There you can also rent kayaks, canoes, or paddleboats and explore the lagoon. Pacific Coast Highway is also popular stretch for a bike ride.
Some other great activities are to catch a flick in the La Paloma theatre downtown Encinitas. Built in the early 1900’s, Charlie Chaplain, Mary Pickford and the Fairbanks came to watch movies here. Quail Botanical Gardens and the Self-Realization ?? offer peace and serenity. The flower fields in Carlsbad are a site to see and walk around. Stop by a ‘u-pick’ strawberry patch, where you can pick your own strawberries. The Del Mar Fairgrounds and race track offers a great deal of events throughout the year. Most notably the Del Mar Fair from early summer through 4th of July. Shortly after the horse racing season starts, where you can test your luck placing bets on the horses. The fairgrounds typically has concerts after the events, check there website for upcoming events and schedules.
